The wells are dispersed across rugged terrain with considerable distances between them, posing significant logistical and operational barriers. Wired communication systems were costly and time-consuming to install and maintain. The terrain’s complexity heightened the risk of physical damage to traditional infrastructure, leading to frequent disruptions and operational inefficiencies. The customer required a more rugged, robust communication network to meet its large capacity requirement while supporting highly mobile assets and overcoming the site’s geographical remoteness. 

A wireless communication solution was needed to address these challenges while maintaining high reliability and security standards. The system had to integrate with existing SCADA control systems and transmit data to a central information center. Key requirements included reduced installation and operational costs, scalability for future expansion, and ensuring consistent data transmission in real-time without interruptions. Additionally, safety considerations demanded a solution that minimized physical risks during installation and operation.

Building a Successful Partnership 

A global partner selected Rajant Kinetic Mesh due to its known ability to provide seamless, resilient connectivity in even the most challenging environments.

The deployment began with a detailed propagation study. Drones were utilized to identify optimal radio positioning, ensuring maximum connectivity performance. This innovative approach allowed for precise planning, reduced installation times, and ensured reliable communication links. Rajant’s BreadCrumb® ES1-2450R nodes and Kinetic Mesh antennas formed the network’s backbone, providing robust and flexible connectivity.

The deployment process was remarkably efficient, with six BreadCrumb radios installed, configured, and tested within one week. Key benefits of this solution included:

  • Wireless technology eliminated the need for extensive wiring and reduced physical hazards.

  • The wireless solution significantly reduced infrastructure and operational expenses compared to traditional wired systems previously used. 

The results exceeded expectations, enhancing the monitoring, control, and centralization of well data. This improvement boosted operational efficiency and elevated situational awareness, which led to higher safety standards across the site.
