Get Acquainted with the KM3 – Ideal for Outdoor Enclosures

Earlier this year, Rajant launched the KM3 BreadCrumb®, a non-ruggedized version of Rajant’s ME4 with the same performance and features but without the IP67 housing and with a lower temperature range.

This flexible DIN rail-mounted wireless node is intended for deployment inside pre-existing enclosures (e.g. NEMA). The nodes can be mounted on the pre-designed, pre-configured panels used with these systems along with the circuitry, sensors, and I/O devices typically included on the data panels.

“Often, organizations already own the enclosures necessary to operate under harsh conditions, which include extreme temperatures”, shares Rajant’s Director of Sales Engineering, Steven Griggs. “The KM3 allows customers to build upon what they already have from Rajant, which saves tremendous cost and space given there are no new boxes required. Adding the KM3 to an existing network is seamless. The installation is simple and fast, plus the dual radios provide built-in redundancy, eliminating the need for costly towers.”

Productivity, efficiency, and safety are paramount in many of today’s markets, particularly oil and gas operations, that rely heavily on SCADA real-time monitoring and video surveillance. Due to the remote locations, these networks require a reliable redundant broadband wireless network to ensure efficiencies are maintained along with remote network access to provide seamless connectivity for field personnel. Like all Rajant offerings, the KM3 is powered by their patented InstaMesh® that enables built-in network redundancy and resiliency.

“Networking is harder than it seems, according to Geoff Smith, Rajant’s Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “At Rajant we build many capabilities into our product to simplify network deployment and performance including our patented InstaMesh® networking software, which enables the network to quickly adapt to rapidly-deployed and mobile network elements. There are no requirements for a central controller and the multi-radios automatically mitigate interference providing built-in redundancy, Our BreadCrumbs combine all the capabilities of a repeater, client, switch and access point in a single device while providing reliable operation in the most challenging environments. When you require mission-critical secure and mobile communications, Rajant delivers.”

It is available in two models, the KM3-2450R and KM3-2409R, supporting temperatures from -20°C to +50°C and are available immediately.
